[Izuku greets them with a wave before approaching. Either not having noticed, or just not minding whether they held hands or not, in front of him. It is nice to hang out together like this. Almost reminds him of when their class had all gone shopping together for one of their school trips. And he is glad to see Bakugo's continued improvement with using his automail, too.
And. Of course, he leads with teasing about the unicorn idea....]
Kacchan, I'm not going as a unicorn....! Todoroki-san said we should match, dress up together, right?
[His fingers drop once it's Katsuki who's drawing away; shy trailing behind the shy; and he lags a little before he's properly fallen in step, trailing the blond. It's always fun seeing what others get up to... Though he's visibly softening with his own inclusion, and he smiles sweetly. Today feels different, special, and the mall seems imposing from the outside with this newest "task" now at hand. A happy mission: he tries to stay focused, fails to press the warm excitement down any further, then steps in close.
[Katsuki flashes a shit eating smile when Izuku protests, pretty much letting the other boy know that he's not done teasing him yet, before turning his attention to Shoto and his question.]
What's usual? Some kinda monster, probably. Or a killer from a slasher.
[Katsuki has definitely gone as a masked killer from a horror film as a young kid... they're just so cool, usually! And the stores are filled with their masks so it's an easy costume to pull off!!]
Personally? I wanna be a zombie. 'cuz I've "died" twice over so I'm practically one anyway.
[And he thinks they're also very cool...]
Dek-- Izuku is trying to ruin my fun, though. He doesn't think I should go realistic with the costume 'cuz he's worried about some snot nosed brats gettin' scared.
[Don't read into Katsuki using his first name too much, Shoto. The two have some stupid bet going on and he just remembered that he was supposed to be using his first name...]
Usually something that's supposed to be scary, I guess? Or characters from a movie or that sort of thing? People dress up as all sorts of things for Halloween.
[He tries to explain and reassure Todoroki, before giving Bakugo a look at that. The reasoning behind his wanting to go as a zombie. Because. He really doesn't need to be reminded of that....! And if he wasn't making a face already, he definitely is when Bakugo actually uses his name. It's.....so....weird. To hear it. At least, from Bakugo. Probably because he's always called him 'Deku' ever since he can remember.]
Fine, but don't say I didn't warn you if you make one of them cry, Kacchan.
[Monsters...? Ah. He stumbles initially on costumed horrors as concept. "Slasher's"... sailing over his head. He can't remember having watched one; no movie nights that he recalls; TV a "comfort", a treat, and he did find himself sneaking off to watch All Might when watching eyes glanced away. It's out his depths still, the culture; the half of this. The word sticks out, even if context shapes it as being something more fun, the little he's stalled on.]
"Slasher"?
[Woah... The names go ignored since he's busy imagining something else, taking things in.
He tilts his head.]
Right, um- [the costumes...]
Midoriya's right though, you know...? It's their holiday, and we're just— I mean- ["being kids one more time-"] We have our themes, so this shouldn't be hard?
[Oh no... the moment Shoto repeats the word "slasher" with that oblivious look on his face, Katsuki just knows the boy's mind is making something up. He feels a bit bad for using slang that Shoto doesn't understand, sometimes forgetting that he's not as media literate as the other two are... but he also doesn't correct himself either or explain any further. It's cute when Shoto doesn't understand!!! Is that wrong of him to think so?
...probably.
He'd be too distracted to explain what a slasher film is anyway. Because the moment Shoto mentions that "Midoriya's right" it has him immediately offended and angry. Scoffing out loud before quickly walking after Shoto so he can give him a very immature (but playful and not actually with any force) smack to the shoulder, as they enter the mall.]
D-- Izuku ain't right about shit! You're supposed to be on MY side! You're MY boyfriend!!
[He's just mad because Izuku said that Shoto would be on his side instead of Katsuki's... and ended up proven right in the end. But Shoto isn't wrong about it being the "kids" holiday, and that they're technically too old to be doing this in the first place. Katsuki immediately told Izuku that he didn't want to dress up because he felt too old.... but now he's feeling like he's one of the kids and deserves to have fun, too.
It's still weird to hear you call me that. But you know, just because he's your boyfriend, doesn't mean he is going to always agree with you.
[Izuku says, aware that they might need to teach and explain things to Shoto, given that the other isn't as knowledgeable about films and video games as much. He follows the other two anyway, shifting as he enters the mall and glances around at the stores to see their options.]
One of these is sure to have some costumes or something that we can work with at least.
[It's no coincidence how the younger's remained de-facto leader... There's still the lingering sentiment, the pull of memories from their earlier days at school, work-studies before the war, then that always-something's that's neatly affixed the idea in place. Their own "team captain"... Shoto peeks back to confirm he's being followed. The use of "boyfriend" makes his stomach twist, and his hands draw up to reach his pinkening ears, unconsciously shy about it. Once again, effectively sandwiched between his two first-someones, which does make this bit seem especially unwinnable. Strongest affection towards the blond, but with an obvious deference towards the younger boy. Chain of command, simply put; and still the existing structure of their old dynamic, their first one. He's loyal to two like this.
Of course, he protests-]
But I am...
[His... "that"... smiling at both-]
He's made a good point, is all.
[Ah- ah- he spies the candy-shop!] Shouldn't we stop to buy our candy too? [Distracted already; Ellipsa's #2 foodie now...]
[It's honestly really funny how the three of them fall in line so easily with their dynamics from home. Izuku, the unspoken leader of the bunch and his two cohorts. Both emotionally stunted and extremely strong... "meatheads" some might call them. And Katsuki would agree if only talking about his shy and easily distracted boyfriend.
He huffs at the both of them, loudly so they know that he's unhappy with them conspiring against him (no, that's not what's happening here he's just dramatic--). But he doesn't argue against it anymore, and instead decides to leave it up to fate to decide who's in the right. He's stubborn as hell and won't budge, so that's about that on the costume front.
As for candy? He tilts his head when Shoto asks, and looks at the shop with it's tantalizing sweets in the window. They do look good...]
It wouldn't hurt. But we should probably get 'em on the way out, shouldn't we?
[Katsuki looks at Izuku with an inquisitive gaze. Asking him with just a look what his opinion would be.]
Ah, right. We should get some, yeah. Maybe after we figure out the costumes? That way, we won't need to carry it around with us if we get it on the way out. But definitely remind us, okay?
[Izuku doesn't really think anything of it, the way they naturally seem to defer to him for whatever reason. He's just going with it. And it isn't like this is anything that major. It's just their preparations for Halloween. Of course, he wants it to be great, since it is Todoroki's first time celebrating, but still. It isn't like he really needs to overthink; his usual strategies and tactics he is used to in battle.]
Ah. [More than food makes itself a distraction now, and as the trio moves to looking over the various shops, Shoto pauses at a loud, bright-lit signage affixed to the outside of the next shop he's peering at. Aisles of trinkets crowd an otherwise neatly planned floorspace. Tall displays boast plastic fangs, brightly shimmery wigs and tchotchke. A row of capsule machines tempts the passersby to try one's luck. Racks of costumes line backs of walls and matched with cheap paired accessories. Above this, bottles of dye and bright makeup sit in their place neatly stacked. On separate shelves, decorative boxes flash smaller peeks of black and orange party gifts. Naturally, the visuals aren't anything he's familiar with, and he's drawn by blinking spotlights to a moving, black-cloaked animatronic hovering at the entrance. Sickle in hand to mime the reaper.
It's full, gaudy, eye-catching setups spread thoroughly throughout its entirety. Of course, all appropriately themed for the holiday. Sharply grinning, inflatable pumpkins sit neatly on the floor; colorfully holographic ghost figures faintly illuminate. Strings of lantern-lights brighten an otherwise dimmed interior. When he peeks in corners, clear balloons hold fillings of gold confetti and glitter; while thinned, gauzy webs lace corners of walls, shelves, and card-racks. On these, ghost-shaped buckets hold packets of chips, treats, and trading cards. A cute blue cat peeks over the glowing signage, clearly a mascot. All in-store spectacle... The boy watching blinks up, then thinks quietly first of Nyanperona, the overwhelming display of holiday cheeriness. Sensory overload.
[It's... so damn cute seeing Shoto's eyes light up just looking at the decorated store. He's full of so much childlike wonder at the things he never got to see, growing up. And it has Katsuki feeling both angry with his upbringing, and grateful that he and Izuku can at least help that inner child of his experience things he should have long ago.]
After you, dork.
[He affectionately calls his boyfriend, as he waits for him to take the lead. And when Shoto steps in before the two, he looks over at Izuku with a slightly confused and also quite amused grin.]
"Pon Pon Doki"?
[Where the heck did Shoto get that from... he's yet to see the cat mascot, himself. Not that he really expects Izuku to know, either.]
[If nothing else, he's doing this for Todoroki. Seeing him experience things for the first time was really fun. It almost reminds him a little of Eri. Though part of him still wishes that his friend had a better childhood that he hadn't missed out on so much. It just means they had to make up for it now! He lets the other two enter first, shrugging at Bakugo and following along inside, glancing around.]
